Sure Lock Mechanical Union
“Sure Lock” technology for the mechanical joining of carbon steel pipe was launched in 1976 as a much faster, more robust and economical alternative to conventional welding.
To date, more than 1.6 million Sure Lock joints representing more than 10,000 miles of pipeline have been assembled in the United States, Russia, Mexico, Bahrain and now Colombia.
In its most recent implementation, the Sure Lock joint was used for the construction of a 200km 16” gas pipeline in Colombia where it dramatically reduced construction time despite the rugged terrain and tropical conditions of the area, all without failure.
•More than 120km of the pipeline came into service before completing the project.
460 16” joints assembled using two assembly machines during a single 7-hour day.
The Sure Lock union has received several certifications and recognitions from the North American Department of Transportation, Federal Services for Industrial and Nuclear Supervision (GosGorTechNadzor) of Russia and the Quality Inspection group of the ABS Quelite Management Testing Group in Mexico.
The Sure Lock union can be used on the entire range of API pipe; from “B” to “X-60” in which it forms a union that exceeds the requirements in API Bulletin 5C# Sec. 3 by more than 50%. The Sure Lock union exceeds API, ASME, ANSI and ASTM specifications and has been subject to numerous successful tests by independent laboratories in the United States, Russia (Russian Institute for Studies of Natural Gases and Gas Technologies), Japan (Semitone Metal Technology, Inc.) and Mexico (Pemex NRFT001T2007 & NRFT030T2009).
